Bürgerspital Solothurn
Extension of the old hospital by a new building
for Hochparterre
Architect: Silvia Gmür Reto Gmür Architekten
Client: Tiefbauamt Solothurn
Location: Solothurn / Switzerland
under construction
The structure, floor plan and facade of the Bürgerspital Solothurn are based on an impressively clear concept. A support grid of 8.4 meters supports the entire building. The access cores are placed at the edge and stiffen it. The internal layout is completely free and flexible. White concrete elements cover the bed house in the form of a gigantic sculpture. The Brise-Soleils break the sunlight and shade the patient rooms so that no blinds are necessary. From the inside, the view is always free. They also visually blur the mass of the building.
